Celtic Circuit
Celtic Circuit, the Celtic Culture and Performance Series, is proud to announce their second event.
The second show in the series falls on Saturday, July 4th. The evening will begin with a Bodhran (Irish drum) workshop by Jared Savoy and Steven Barney. The Bodhran, a frame drum, is a relative newcomer to the traditional Celtic music scene but has become increasingly popular in all forms of Celtic music.
Next we will have a solo bagpipe set by piper Michael Barney. Michael began his lifelong study of the bagpipes at the age of eight with the Great Highland Bagpipes (Scottish). About six years ago he decided to take up the Uilleann (Irish) pipes, because, with it's two octave range he would be able to play traditional Cajun tunes. He is currently working on purchasing a set of pipes from northern France called a Veuze.
For the main event of the evening we are very pleased to welcome Baton Rouge based Scottish folk band Smithfield Fair. 2009 will mark the band's 20th year together and will see the release of their 12th album. Veterans of the stage, their previous shows read like a list of every Celtic and Folk festival in America. They will play some of their favorite songs as well as a few from their upcoming album. www.smithfieldfair.com
The show will end with an open Celtic Jam Session featuring some of the performers of the evening as well as members of the "Lafayette Celtic Jam"
Event #2 Schedule:

Always..Patsy Cline is based on a true story about Cline's friendship with a
fan from Houston named Louise Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas
honky-tonk in 1961, and continued a correspondence with Cline until her
death. This musical play, complete with down home country humor, true
emotion, and even some audience participation includes many of Patsy's
unforgettable hits such as Crazy, I Fall to Pieces, Sweet Dreams, and
Walking After Midnight. 27 songs in all. The show's title was inspired by
Cline's letters to Seger which were consistently signed Love ALWAYS, Patsy
Cline.
